A New Year’s Fortune Cookie

 It’s a new year, and the time is ripe for a fresh start.  Here’s your chance (with thanks to Lisa Spaar for the exercise we’ve adapted) to get the year ahead powered with the evocative cautions and prescient predictions.

The title of your poetry fortune will be:

January 2021 Horoscope for ______________ (insert your Zodiac sign here)

Example:  January 2021 Horoscope for Pisces 

Line 1:  Your first line is done for you (easy start!): “It begins with something backward”

Line 2:  As you build on line 1, use some form of the words “milkteeth” and “perfume” in your second line.

Line 3:  In this line, use the phrase: “You should avoid . . .” and follow it with a list of at least three things (e.g., “You should avoid “the box of ashes in the closet, shirts with sleeves, and deep green bodies of water”).

Line 4:  Use the phrase “If .. .. . . . , then .. . . . .” (e.g., “If a poppy growing by a stoop off Pacific Avenue offers you its voice, then by all means commence singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”)

Line 5 (Final Line):  End  with a line that begins with the word “beware,” but offer a warning/caution that is at least as hopeful as it is menacing.
